My Wedding Logo

October 2020

Why brand our wedding? It’s a question I’ve been asked by more than a few of my non-designer friends (the graphic artists I know, on the other hand, totally get it). For my now-wife Jessica and me, it’s because our wedding represented more than just our union. For us, it represented our aspiring to a higher set of values, a collection of charisms larger than ourselves. Brands are meant to symbolize exactly this. A logo and accompanying brand means that the organization it represents is more than the sum of its parts. It refers to the mission and the philosophy to which the whole team aspires.

The wedding branding package I designed for my wife and I is based on the idea of a doorway through which we all must walk through if we are to accept our calling. The gate fold itself is made up of our initials and tropical botanicals make up the rest, signifying fertility and the New Eden. The anchor sub-logo, also built from our initials, represents our grounding in one another and in faith.

I designed all the elements, including the cutcontour template for the invitation, with input from Jessica. It's a mark which not only united the 'look' of our wedding but which we hope to use as a kind of “family crest” for the rest of our lives.
