The George Ghost Sign

November 2020

In November of 2020, I was hired to design and install a mural of sorts at The George, a new combination music venue/recording studio in my childhood hometown. Venue creator Bob Rice commissioned a “ghost sign” (that is, a faux distressed vintage sign) on a brick wall on the stage. We worked with him not only to design a vintage-inspired graphic that would honor his late father (the musician for whom the space was named), but also to craft a forensic narrative which suggests the space used to function as a (completely fictional) music supply company called “Davenport.” This narrative will serve to guide the space as design continues down the road.
