Inktober 2019

Each year the grassroots creative challenge known as “Inktober” invites artists around the world to creatively respond to a different prompt each day in October. I use the opportunity to stretch myself creatively and keep my skills sharp for client work.

While the yearly Inktober challenge comes with its own creative prompt for artists and illustrators to rise to, I make a point to add an additional challenge or gimmick that will push me into design areas I’ve not yet experimented with.

In 2019, Inktober’s daily creative prompts asked artists to visually play with random word pairings such as “ring” and “mindless” or “bait” and “freeze.” I gave myself the additional challenge of mixing digital art with hand-torn paper collage--meaning my illustrations and the lines therein were dictated entirely by the way the paper was torn and photographed.
