Escucha Mi Voz

Winning Artist | 2016

Project Summary

In 2016, Escucha Mi Voz hosted an international graphic art competition to promote the rights of migrants around the world.

My design, which is a combination of acrylic paint and digital manipulation, features a bindle (commonly referred to in English as a "hobo sack"), an internationally recognizable symbol for those who are forced to live "on the move". The bindle resembles the Earth, representing the competition's theme: that, at some point in history, we have all been migrants--that the migrant experience and the human experience are one in the same. Further representing this theme are the words carved into the stick which holds the bindle's weight: "Esto es de Todos," which roughly translates to, "This is of all of us," or, "This belongs to all of us". In this sense, then, humanity is literally bearing the weight of this globally shared experience.

My piece was selected from among thousands to be featured in galleries in Mexico, Ireland, and Chicago, as well as reprinted and sent to politicians in both the US and Mexico.

"Nothing is more special to us than knowing there are people around the world with our same convictions in favour of human rights. This amazing poster Jacob designed is clear proof that we can come together and be put on the same path to achieve a better world... Without any doubt, this poster is iconic in this history of this initiative."
